Vivaltina “Viva” Gallegos passed away surrounded by loved ones, leaving a legacy of love, courage, and cherished memories. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she was the rock of her family.
Born September 27, 1951, in Santa Bárbara, Terceira, Azores, to Marcelina Goncalves Enses and Jose Da Rocha Vaz Mendes, Viva immigrated to the United States at 16 with her brother, Paul. Though she arrived with little English, her fierce determination fueled her destination.
Building a life in California, she married Jerry Gallegos and raised their children, Monica and Joseph. After being widowed early, she navigated life with remarkable strength, ensuring her children had every opportunity. Fearless and independent, Viva was known for her business spirit and generosity.
She found deep joy spending time with her brothers—Jose, Tarcisio, and Paul—whose bond remains strong. Family was her greatest treasure; she was happiest surrounded by her children, grandchildren, family and friends, whether sharing meals or celebrating milestones. She had a passion to live life!
Viva also had a love for travel and adventure, often sharing new cultures and experiences with her family. Her final journey brought her full circle back to the Azores, where she shared the beauty of her birthplace with her children and grandchildren.
Viva taught us that we define our own future. Her life was defined by family, opportunity, friendship, and love—a legacy that lives on through the values she instilled.
She is survived by her children, Monica and Joseph; her grandchildren; her brothers, Jose, Tarcisio, and Paul; and many extended family members and dear friends.
She will be remembered and love forever.
Visitation will be held at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95050, US, on September 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at the same location on September 8, 2026, at 6:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 17400 Peak Ave, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, US, on September 9, 2026, at 11:00 am, followed by a Committal Service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2650 Madden Ave, San Jose, CA 95116, US, on September 9, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
