He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Frank Califano, Sr. and Maryann Pauline Califano. Ed’s wife Randi Califano died shortly after his passing, on July 10, 2023. Ed is survived by his brother Peter Charles Califano, and sisters Michele Ann Kussey and Theresa Elizabeth Ferguson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk, NY in 1965. He and Randi were married on January 20, 1979, in Los Angeles, CA. The couple later moved to Santa Monica, where they lived for over 40 years.
Ed worked as a Purchasing Supervisor for J&M Products, Inc. in San Fernando, CA for over 30 years. He studied Purchasing & Materials Managements at UCLA Extension, graduating from a certified program in 1989.
He had a keen interest in music throughout his life, starting early with his love of the 60’s rock bands: The Beatles and The Searchers – and he owned a Paul McCarthy bass guitar. As a teenager, Ed played guitar and keyboards in a rock band – even providing music for a local prom.
He was a loyal sports fan and followed the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and the Buffalo Sabres. Ed was a committed Catholic and attended St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica.
He had a great memory for trivia, especially family history; and was often the final word on disputes regarding what had actually happened and when. Ed had a wicked sense of humor and loved watching TV shows like The Three Stooges.
Even though Ed was a quiet man, his absence will surely be noticed. He will be missed by family, friends, co-workers, fellow church members and neighbors.
The family celebrated Ed and his wife Randi’s lives with a Memorial Service Mass on November 3, 2023, in Mesa, Arizona.
On Ed’s urn we inscribed:
Ed Califano
July 31, 1947, to May 26, 2021
Faithful, stoic and good friend.
We love you.
