

James "Jim" Osborne Prevatte Jr., cherished brother, uncle, friend, mentor, and leader, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 79. Born on October 18, 1946, in Orlando, Florida, Jim’s life was a radiant example of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him.
He is reunited in eternal rest with his parents, Lt. Colonel James O. Prevatte and Helen Prevatte, and his beloved sister, Sheila Prevatte.
His gentle spirit brought comfort and joy to everyone he met. Always ready with a warm smile, a witty remark, or a helping hand. His compassion knew no bounds, and he made each person feel valued and seen.
A proud graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Jim’s professional journey was marked by vision, integrity, and a deep commitment to helping others succeed. He served as Consultant and Coach for Lean Healthcare West, CEO of Strategic Information Group, President of MC Software, Principal at Oliver Wight Education Associates, and held multiple positions at Bently Nevada Corporation. In each role, Jim inspired countless colleagues and friends not only through his achievements but through his genuine desire to lift others up. He was a mentor, a guide, and a source of wisdom, always eager to share his knowledge and celebrate the successes of those he cared about.
Beyond his career, Jim found true happiness on the golf course, where he built lasting friendships and created memories filled with laughter and camaraderie. His love for life was evident in every story he shared and every moment he spent with family and friends.
Jim’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his beloved sister, Sharon P. Coleman (Ray); his devoted nieces, Sheila Barela (Ernest) and Stephanie Urista (Billy); his treasured great-niece, Avery Barela; and his adored great-nephews, Brandon Urista and Ethan Barela, as well as his many friends. Each of them carries forward his spirit of love, laughter, and generosity.
Though Jim is no longer with us, the light he brought into our lives will never fade. We will forever cherish the countless moments of joy, the wisdom he shared, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His memory will remain a blessing and a guiding star for all who knew him.
