I went to basic training with Vera, he was so smart and we often chatted while waiting for our next task. He was always willing to be a battle buddy and never left anyone behind. He will be so missed and fondly remembered. Rest in peace Vera.

I got to know Vera quite well, since we were roommates in ait. He was smart kind and caring. I have never met someone that even resembles Vera. He was such a kind individual. We talked about everything together and did everything together. Over the course of 16 weeks we became brothers. I will remember his big smile for the rest of my life. Jesus Emmanuel had big dreams, and I am deeply saddened by his passing.

On a lighter note:
My favorite memory of Vera is when he made Drill Sergeant Dumas drop to the front leaning rest and knock some push ups out with us. He is the only PFC that I know of who has made a drill sergeant push.

Rest easy, brother. I’ll see you someday.

I had the pleasure of contributing to Jesus's advanced individual training at Fort Huachuca. He was brilliant both in mind and character. The best part of my day was our conversations on ethics. You will be missed young sir.

Vera was a vibrant character, I always encouraged him to pursue the best in life and we spoke often about the future and what he wants out of the military. I’m glad I shared wisdom with him and I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to meet and connect with him. He was the platoon favorite, everyone shared good laughs with him and I can say with certainty that I trusted him as a battle buddy and as a friend. You will be missed, rest easy soldier!

This is somebody who truly resonated with me, one that showed empathy and character. Whether it's debating between the DFAC or outside food, trying to hit up a movie in theaters, using a nerf gun to play laser tag, or making me eat those god awful Clif bars, I enjoyed the adventure of it all. He was someone that truly gave it his all with a ridiculously good character, despite all circumstances.

As he walked me out to the uber for the airport on graduation day, waving goodbye, I think back about all the memories we've had. Memories that I wouldn't have any other way.

See you on the other side, buddy. And thanks for the boots recommendation.

This man made the whole world smile, those who knew him and those that did not.
I will never forget hearing 100 soldiers in formation yelling Veras name just to watch him turn and smile back :) Rest In Peace brother
You will be missed!
