Carlos was born in Santa Paula, CA on November 1, 1929. He was a lifelong Santa Paula resident.
At the very tender age of 13, he began working to help support his parents and younger siblings. He started with ranching work, helping his father wherever he could. From there, he eventually began his long time career with Laborers Union Local 585. He was well respected by his fellow Union brothers for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Carlos married Irene Castro on December 18, 1952, the beginning of what would be 62 years of blissful marriage. Upon marriage, they settled in Santa Paula, where Carlos purchased his first small home for his family. They went on to have three children, Lorraine, Charlie, and Larry. While his children were very small, Carlos began building the family home, where his family members still reside today.
Carlos and Irene had a beautiful life together. While Irene stayed home to care for their children, Carlos worked hard every day to provide for his family. His hard work and devotion to his family were unwavering.
Carlos was an intelligent and resourceful self-taught man. He was a voracious reader, with the ability to retain and recall facts, especially anything relating to history. As a result of his life experiences, he consistently encouraged his children and later, his grandchildren, to work hard in school and obtain a good education.
Carlos enjoyed spending time with his children. He also spent many hours tinkering with his truck and fixing things around the house with his extensive collection of tools. Later, when his children were grown, he could always be counted on to help them with their household projects and to give helpful guidance and advice when it was needed. Later, when his grandchildren came along, he spent many hours doting on them and caring for their needs. He was the perfect “Tata.”
Carlos was a wonderful example of how a loving husband and father should be. When Irene became ill in her later years, he never left her side. He was completely devoted to her care until her death.
Carlos will forever be remembered as the loving husband, father and grandfather that he was.
Carlos is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (Chuck); son, Larry; grandchildren Kimberlee (Steven); Jordan (Melissa); Chris; Katelyn; and Alex; five great-grandchildren, Jadyn; Addison; Hunter; Mason and Harper; and daughters-in-law, Lisa and Monique.
Carlos was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, and his beloved son, Charlie.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gary M. Deutsch for his loving care of Carlos, as well as Santa Paula Fire and Ventura County AMR personnel.
