Carlos “Chuck” Reyes Gomez went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2014 at the age of 90. He was born January 2, 1924 in Santa Paula, California. Raised by his parents Antonio and Agustina Gomez, along with brothers Nito, Tony and Eugene; sisters Lupe, Chayo and Delia. Answering the call of duty at the age of 18, Chuck helped secure our freedom while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific arena as a squad leader, helped in leading the seizure of the Mariana Island, Saipan and Okinawa. Upon his return home to Santa Paula, Carlos fulfilled his destiny and married the love of his life Beatrice “Bebe” Avila of Santa Paula on April 25, 1948. Then moved to Ventura to raise their family and he begin his career at the CBC Port Hueneme Naval base as a Warehouse Supervisor until his retirement in 1981. Chuck was an extraordinary loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all; he was very humorous, understanding, compassionate, generous man. Anyone who met him would attest to his warm heart and gentle nature. He will always be remembered for his charm, patriotism, and always greet you with a “howdy”. If he didn’t remember your name you were affectionately known as “George”. Chuck was a true blue Dodger fan, attending games with his family or on a chartered bus with friends, dancing with his wife at functions, building block walls with friends, coaching his son’s baseball team, camping, and growing his tomatoes with his neighbor Bill. But the most fulfillments came from his grandchildren which he cherished deeply until his last days. They always knew “grandpa” would be there for them. The memories that Chuck leaves his family and friends will be forever lasting. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Bebe in 1993. He is survived by his children Danny Gomez (Diane), Dennis Gomez (Terri), Lisa Galli (Dino); Grandchildren Robert Gomez (Tiffany), Gina Garcia (Johnny), Carlos Vasquez, Mathew Gomez, Denise Ezell (Justin), Mark Vasquez, Allen Gomez, Brianna Vasquez, Aaron Galli, Alexis Galli; Great-grandchildren Johnny, Joe, and Gianna Garcia; Delilah and Savannah Gomez, and Vivienne Ezell. Im so sorry to hear of the passing of Carlos.
I first met him while working at Santa Barbara Bank and Trust and we became quick friends I used to call him Romeo because of his flirtatious ways with the ladies. :-)
He was always happy and kind. I would often times walk him to his car joking with him that I would push him down the stairs, the wheelchair ramp was right next to the stairs.
He always spoke of how much he loved and missed dancing with his wife.
I went to visit Carlos at his home many years ago, shortly after he lost his other leg. I noticed how sensitive he was about it and I felt so desperate to help him somehow.
I will forever remember "Romeo" Carlos for his kindness and strength.
He is certainly a tremendous loss to this earth. What an incredibly wonderful person he is. I'am blessed to have met him. What a blessing he must have been to all of his family.
With heartfelt sympathy
Susie Curtis
