Carolyn Sue Gonzalez entered the kingdom of heaven on January 21, 2019. Carolyn was a gracious, giving, and gentle spirit at heart her entire life. She enjoyed the arts and music, and periodically expressed her talents through the medium of watercolors. In the kitchen she was a master cook and hostess. Music from contemporary vocalists like Phoebe Snow, Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, and Taj Mahal would routinely fill the air, joining the the aromas and spices of her tasty dishes, creating a soothing, welcoming ambiance for her family, friends, and guests. Her collection of recipes and cookbooks are a sweet metaphor for the many beautiful people and cherished events of her amazing life.
She spent over twenty years with and married to the man she considered the love of her life, Michael Gonzalez, and together they raised a daughter, Raquel. Carolyn was a proud mother and considered that role as the greatest honor of her life. Carolyn and Michael parted paths, but as a testament to their strong loving relationship remained lifelong, loyal friends and family. Carolyn appreciated and enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors and always felt a great calm and comfort when in the midst of the splendor of natures beaches, forests, mountains, and lakes. It was there, or in the arms of her daughter, where she most felt the closeness of the Great Spirit.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her youngest sister Elaine. She is survived by her daughter, Raquel; Parents, Otis and Masako Pate; Sisters, Debbie, Brenda, Judy; Brother, Ronald; lifelong friend, and soulmate Michael Gonzalez; and trusted friend and loving companion, Dan.
A private family graveside service was held on January 31, 2019 to celebrate her life and give reverence to the many memories she imparted with those whom she touched. She will be missed but will undoubtedly comfort us from above.
A special note of Gratitude to Athena of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula, for the gentle guidance and support during these challenging times.
