Dad was born November 11, 1922, to Joseph and Thea Roina in Greenwich Conn. While attending Greenwich high school he wrote and arranged music for the concert bands. He received a scholarship to Julliard, sang in the Metropolitan Opera company chorus, was an extra in the ballet Russe de Monte Carlo production of Scheherazade, and attended New York art school. After graduation in 1940 he was offered a four year scholarship in the US Navy School of Music in Washington DC. Dad was assigned to the USS Enterprise during the attack on Pearl Harbor and spent three years as a medic and musician for the ship. In 1946, while stationed in San Pedro, CA, he met Barbara Marshall. He married Mom and they moved back to Connecticut where Dad had been accepted to Yale. Although a tough decision, they decided instead to move to mom’s hometown of Santa Paula. Mom and Dad built there house on Say Road in 1956 and raised their family. Dad graduated from UC Santa Barbara with liberal Arts Degree in music and art. He began his teaching career at Briggs School and then transferred to Santa Paula Elementary School in 1954, Isbell Middle school, and finally Santa Paula High School from 1963-2005. Dad designed and taught the accredited music appreciation class at SPUHS. Dad also taught at Saint Bonaventure and St. Sebastian. This allowed them to keep their on-going music program. Dad was honored as Citizen of the year in 1998, Grand Marshal, Educator of the year, The Ed Roina scholarship in music were developed in his name and the SPUHS Band Room is dedicated to Mr. Edward Ronia. Dad lived the dream that every student could be successful. The family would like to thank Dr. Gary Deutsch, for his continued support in keeping our Dad’s life full of quality and dignity. We would also like to thank our four caregivers for their love, respect, laughter, and patience for our Dad.
He was preceded in death by son, Edward Richard Jr. (butch) and grandson, Eric Taylor and Brian Roina.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Marshall Joseph Roina (Darlene), Paula Stoltman (Jim), and Lisa DelaRosa (Del), his grandchildren Jennifer and Daniel DelaRosa, James Roina (lisa), Ben Roina, Peter Roina (Jennifer) and seven great grandchildren.

Private burial at SP cemetery at 11:30 Celebration of life ceremony SPHS 404 N sixth St. 3:00-5:00 at the center court quad.
