Glenna Jean Helms

Glenna Jean Helms, 92, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2018. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Howard Helms (1/17/16) and two sons: Jimmy Leon Helms (2/26/14) and Kenneth Dean Helms (3/9/05); beloved sister Mary Antunez, who is survived by husband Carlos, brothers Aaron and wife Betty, Howard Dean and wife Betty, and Adrian and wife Reba. She is survived by her brother Bobby Jo Fildes and wife Mary; daughters-in law, Donna Helms and Elizabeth Helms; five grandchildren; Michelle Smith and husband Michael, Patty Morgan and husband Russell, Geoffrey Helms and wife Elayssa, Jessica Helms, and Katie Banday and husband Josh. She leaves behind six great-grandchildren; Mikaela Smith, age 23, Justin Smith, age 21, Connor Morgan, age 17, Parker Morgan age 15, Sydney Morgan age 11, Malia Banday age 4, and Lucas Helms, age 1. Glenna was born in Sedan, Kansas on November 8, 1925 to Howard and Ina Fildes. She married her high school sweetheart Howard Helms and had two beloved sons. She worked at See’s Candy for over 30 years and then several years at Beverly’s Fabrics. She was an avid quilter who created beautiful keepsakes for both family and friends. Glenna enjoyed cooking, sewing, doll making, and crafting, as well as spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long time active member of Church of the Foothills. There will be a small family graveside service on Friday, August 3 at 11am at Santa Paula Cemetery, 330 Cemetery Road. Glenna's memorial service will be held Saturday, August 4 at 2pm at Church of the Foothills, 6279 Foothill Road, Ventura. Reverend Kris Bergstrom will preside. Reception to follow the service. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Church of the Foothills Music Fund.
