Irene was born in Santa Paula, CA on December 7, 1929. She was a lifelong Santa Paula resident.
As a young woman, she met a handsome man named Carlos Castro, who would become the love of her life. Irene and Carlos married on December 18, 1952, the beginning of what would be 62 years of blissful marriage.
Irene and Carlos settled in Santa Paula. While Carlos worked hard to support the family, Irene devoted herself to being the perfect wife and mother, raising their three precious children, Lorraine, Charlie and Larry. Irene’s greatest pleasures in life were caring for her husband, her children and her home.
Irene’s devotion to her family never wavered. After raising her three children, she took on the task of helping to care for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren, and later her three great-grandchildren, brought great pleasure to Irene. She was the best Nana any grandchild could ask for.
Irene enjoyed cooking meals for her family and was known for her large Sunday morning breakfasts, when the family gathered around her table. She also loved gardening in her yard and spending time with her extended family members, including her siblings, their spouses, and her husband’s family.
Irene was a perfect example of loving devotion to her family, and she worked hard to instill strong family and moral values in her children. She will forever be remembered as the loving wife, mother and grandmother that she was.
Irene is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Carlos; daughter, Lorraine (Chuck); son, Larry; grandchildren Kimberlee (Steven); Jordan (Melissa); Chris; Katelyn; and Alex; three great-grandchildren, Jadyn; Addison; and Hunter; and daughters-in-law, Lisa Castro and Monique Castro.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved son, Charlie.
Irene’s family would like to thank Dr. Gary M. Deutsch and hospice caregivers Sherry, Linda, Rosario and Nikki for their loving care of Irene in the final months of her life.
Visitation will be held at Skillin-Carroll Chapel Tuesday October 7, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadulupe Wednesday October 8, 2014 at 10:00am with burial following at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
