William Elton Boyd, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, went home to be with the Lord on April 19, 2014, just 18 days after his beloved wife of 64 years, Deloris Sue Boyd. Bill was 85 years old. Bill was born September 20, 1928, in Clinton, Arkansas to William Edward Boyd and Minnie Bell Walker-Boyd. Bill left a legacy of faithfulness, integrity and hard work for his children and grandchildren to follow.
Bill served in the United States Army from 1947-1950. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he worked in the oil fields before moving to California where he worked in the agriculture business. Bill spent nearly 50 years in Ventura County, working for Jones and Dodds, Pacific Pest Control and AgRx. He made lifelong friends there and often spoke of his co-workers with fondness.
Bill loved to garden and was particularly proud of his tomatoes and roses. Bill was quick to tease and was known to many for his quick wit. He would frequently tease his grandchildren about seeing their picture in a magazine or on television, then show them some silly picture of a chimpanzee or funny animal.
He and Deloris were members of Life Way Baptist Church in Santa Paula, California. When they were able, they enjoyed meals out and visits with their church friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Deloris and their first born son. Bill is survived by sons Bill Boyd (wife Jeannine) Ventura, and Jim Boyd (wife Diana) Ventura; and sister, Euna Mayben of Woodlake, California. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Mark, Jeff and Michelle Boyd; Stephanie Boyd-Whitney (husband Joel); and Carolyn Boyd; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
