Alice Faye Mitchell

Alice Faye Mitchell, our sister, our Aunt, our friend, left this world to be with her savior Monday, September 19, 2022. We will miss her love and her laughter here but we look forward to seeing her in the presence of our Lord one day soon.

Faye was born in Andalusia, Alabama August 20, 1942, the daughter of Arthur Wilson Mitchell (1916-1985) and Mary Lois Lee Mitchell (1919-2006). She grew up in a household of love, faith and family strength. Her parents taught her many of the values that helped make her successful in life.

She graduated Vigor High School in 1960. College wasn’t always encouraged for girls during this time, an opportunity she regretted all her life, so she soon went to work at Periodical Publishers. Alton Boxboard (later Jefferson Smurfit Corp.) followed. She married Thomas Clinton James (1938-2022) on her birthday in 1965 but they sadly divorced in December 1971. She never remarried.

Faye was the Family Historian, an avid amateur genealogist. She and her sister, Carolyn, searched through the dusty files, scrolled through mountains of microfiche and traveled to places where long ago their forefathers were. They were searching for that elusive ancestor or to break down that “brick wall” that blocked their progress on to the past. All before the ease of the keyboard and internet, though she gladly took to it also when it became available.

She retired from the Jefferson Smurfit Corporation December 31, 1993, the Office Manager of 2 of their manufacturing plants, (Mobile and York). Retirement didn’t quite suit her so she went on to work with the W G Yates and Sons Construction Company. She retired from there in 2005 as Administrative Assistant to the General Manager of the Mobile Division. She later took up Mary Kay Cosmetics for a while before settling down to spend her retirement years continuing her search through the past for clues to all of her loved ones family trees.

Her parents and her niece, Jennifer Lee Howell Mitchell Malone (Mark), were there to welcome her into the presence of the Lord. We, who remain, have hope to see her again and be reunited with all our loved ones in His presence. Jesus, who by his sacrifice, made a way to wash away all our sins that we may be clean before him. He offers forgiveness of sin to all who repent and trust him. We hope to see you all there one day too.

She leaves behind: a sister, Carolyn Yarbrough (Donald), and a brother, Bobby Mitchell (Ann); 2 nieces, Lois Anderson (Tom) and Sandra Welborn (Matt) and a nephew, Clint Mitchell (Candace); many great-nieces and great-nephews, Christian (Jon), Marie, Rebekah, Alycia (Chad), Sarah (Steve), Stephen, Emily, Danielle, Thomas, Timothy, Alexandra (Hunter), Ray, Dallas and Griffin; and many more great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
