

Rev. James Clement Casey, age 87, a native of Monroe County, Pastor Emeritus of Lafitte Baptist Church and a resident of Saraland, Alabama for 41 years, went to be with his Lord on April 2, 2023. He was a graduate of Vigor High School, Class of 1953, All-State Band, Tuba; William Carey College, Class of 1960 and earned his B.D. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was the Pastor for Georgetown Baptist Church from 1963-1966. In 1966, he was called to Plateau First Baptist Church which eventually relocated to Saraland and became Lafitte Baptist Church, where he served for 28 years. He also served as Pastor for Smithtown Baptist Church in Eight Mile as well as providing interim services for many different churches in the South Alabama area. Throughout his ministry, he remained an active member of the Mobile Baptist Association, the Southern Baptist Convention and was a pioneer and fervent advocate for racial integration in the church.Rev. Casey was a faithful pastor, loving husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lena Risen Casey, his parents, Zearl O. Casey and Mary Haynes Casey, and brother Robert (Bobby) Casey. He is survived by his two daughters, Brenna Casey Kelsey (Peter) and Bonnie Casey Turner (Tracy); seven grandchildren, Chapman Blakeney, Briggs Blakeney, Sully Turner, Sage Turner, Baxter Turner, Bonnie Miliano (Evan) and Brittany Bounds; three brothers, Thomas N. Casey (Sara), Z. Stanley Casey (Nancy) and Paul E. Casey (Beth), as well as many other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM at Lafitte Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM from the church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chapman Blakeney, Briggs Blakeney, Baxter Turner, Sully Turner, Brandon Allison and Clint Smith.
