

James (Jim) Tryant Hicks Jr., a lifelong resident of the Saraland, Alabama area, was called Home by our Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his immediate family. He was 80 years old.
Jim was born in Mobile, Alabama, to the late James Tryant Hicks Sr. and the late MaybeD Davis Hicks. He graduated from Satsuma High School in Satsuma, Alabama, with the Class of 1966. In June 1966, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for four years. He went on to work for UOP for 35 years as a chemical operator. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed spending time at the camp, hunting, fishing, watching Alabama football, and traveling.
Jim was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Mildred Bertucci; his brother, Frank Hicks; his sisters, Maudie Hicks, Jesse (Maxine) Griffin, and Judy Messer; and his brothers-in-law, Joe Messer, Gary Schreiner, and Leroy Fitzpatrick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Florence Ann Hicks; his son, Kenny (Pam) Hicks; his daughter, Sandy Hicks; his grandchildren, Ashlee (Devin) Stringer, Austin Hicks, and Colin Hicks; and his extra-special great-granddaughter, Sutton James Stringer. He is also survived by his brothers, Lamar Hicks and Michael (Rhonda) Hicks; his sisters, Janice (Jerry) Jones, Terri (Jack) Munday, Rita Hicks, and Vickie Schreiner; his sisters-in-law, Grace Hicks, Marie (Gene) Cote and Lucille Fitzpatrick; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Although Jim’s passing leaves a deep sadness in the hearts of those who loved him, the Hicks family finds comfort in knowing that he is at peace, resting in paradise with loved ones and friends who have gone before him.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Hicks family respectfully requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Jim Hicks.
