He was born on August 2, 1949 in Andalusia, AL, to Ernestine and James C. Kilpatrick.
He graduated from Satsuma High School and then attended the University of South Alabama and Mobile College. He went on to work as a millwright for various employers, most notably, Robert J. Baggett for over 50 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, and diverse hobbies—including marathon running, woodworking, gardening, motorcycle riding, and generally anything mechanical.
He was a devoted and loving father who was committed to his faith and family. He taught his children and grandchildren to be curious, have a strong work ethic, and to always put your best foot forward.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Cassandra—to whom he was wed for 52 years, his children Valerie Heinl, Elizabeth Riley, and Daniel, his nephew Robert Downing, his sister Sharon Richison, and his brother Steve Kilpatrick. He is survived by his grandchildren Alexis Riley, Owen Heinl, Riannon Heinl, Kaylen Riley, Phillip Heinl, and Jack Heinl. He is survived by his best friend of 70 years, Gerrel Pridgen.
Serving as pallbearers will be Samuel Badger, Garner Bennett, Patrick Breithaupt, Robert Dobson, Jerry Downing Jr., William Downing, Stephen Kilpatrick, and Brent Richison. Honorary pallbearers will be William Adair, Charles Dicks, Robert Moseley, and Gerrel Pridgen.
There will be a visitation at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on September 17th at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Parish. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
