Janice Miller Irby

Janice was a woman of faith, generous love, and intentional kindness. Her life was defined by doing for others, often quietly and without recognition. She had a big heart and a gentle way of making people feel cared for, consistently placing the needs of those around her before her own.

She was especially known for her talent in crocheting blankets, lovingly gifted to new babies. Each blanket was far more than yarn and stitches. It was a tangible expression of her love, her care, and her joy in welcoming new life. Her hands were rarely still, whether she was crocheting or tending to her plants, where she found great peace and contentment.

Janice loved reading and was a constant, enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren. She faithfully showed up for their activities and celebrated every milestone with pride. Her presence was a steady source of encouragement and comfort, and her love for her family knew no bounds.

Janice retired from the University of South Alabama, where she dedicated many years of service in the Accounting Department. Her work reflected the same diligence, integrity, and quiet commitment that defined every part of her life.

Her faith guided her life and shaped the way she treated others with grace, intention, humility, and compassion. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, service, and love that will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

She is survived by her loving, faithful, and devoted husband of 56 years, James Edward Irby; her three children, Neil Edward Irby Sr. (Sandra), Sara Irby Stewart (Lane), and Alan Irby (Breanna); seven grandchildren, Neil Edward Irby Jr. (Alayna), Connor Dru Stewart (Shelby), Raegan Brooke Stewart, Ashlyn Paige Stewart, Anabel Kate Irby, Emily Jo Irby, and Aiden Oliver Irby “AO”; and three great-grandchildren, Anna-Katherine Irby, Neil Edward Irby III “Trey”, and Gideon James Stewart “Boo II.” She is also survived by her brother, Howard Glenn Miller (Anna), her brothers and sisters in law, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Francis Miller.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her. Her life was a quiet testimony of faith in action, and her legacy will continue through the love she so freely gave.
