

Leatrice was born on July 30, 1925 in Butler County Alabama to Herbert Couey and Estelle Pierce Couey. She was a graduate of Murphy High School and lived most of her life in Satsuma and Saraland, Alabama.
In 1945, she married Griffin Deas (deceased 1966). She and Griffin had three children; Brenda Watts of Forney, Texas, Sandra Ruble (John) of Elverson, Pennsylvania, and Donna Snodgrass (Gerald) of Indian Land, South Carolina. In 1972, she married JD “Danny” Brown (deceased).
Leatrice is preceded in death by her sister Frances Scrimpshire, or as she called her "Bill!"She is survived by her brothers Wayne Couey of Jay, Florida and Pete Pierce of Milton, Florida; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Leatrice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Leatrice retired from Mobile Infirmary where she made many close friendships that lasted up till the time of her passing. She was most importantly a devoted Christian, and most recently was a member of Embry Hills church of Christ in Atlanta Georgia. Many people have benefitted from her cooking and hospitality!
The family would like to acknowledge the many caregivers who assisted with Leatrice’s care over the past 12 years of declining health, but especially Catherine Surles of Mobile, Alabama, Katrina Wood of Longview, Texas and Nikki Fluellen of Longview, Texas with whom she had a special bond.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 5 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, located at 9700 Celeste Rd. in Saraland, Alabama. Interment to immediately follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Services will be conducted by long-time friend Bill Hall. Her grandson, David Watts, Jr of Forney, Texas will read the obituary and deliver personal remarks. Congregational singing of some of her favorite hymns will be led by her nephew Mike Scrimpshire of Henderson, Texas.
