

Mary Pearl Watson Duke, native of Brewton, Alabama and resident of Mobile passed from this earthly life into the fullness of eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2025. Born December 4, 1933, she was ninety-one years of age.She is preceded in death by her husband for over sixty years, Mr. James A. Duke; her parents Homer Watson & Goldie Steele Watson; brothers Lewis Watson, Harvey Watson, Narvey Watson, Larry Owens; sisters Loney Crawford, Dorothy Hendricks, Jean Jimmerson Maxwell; daughter-in-law Cindy Sollie Duke.Mary is survived by her loving children Sheila Duke (Doveard Brent) Pugh of Mobile and James Arnold (Martha Fikes) Duke of Satsuma; grandchildren James Duke II, Robert (Lindsay) Duke, Dakota Duke, Adam (Zariah) Stephenson, Ethan (Kayla) Pugh and Caleb (Hannah) Pugh; great-grandchildren Dakota Duke, Alexander Duke, Archer Duke, Aiden Pugh, Mila Pugh, Logan Pugh and Maeve Pugh; sisters Bobbie Watson (Gene) Thomas and Joyce Morgan; brother Johnny Watson; sister-in-law Mary Jewel Newburn, and several nieces and nephews.Mary is affectionately remembered as a loving and tireless mother and homemaker. Along her career path, she served Mobile County as a school traffic guard before transitioning to the City of Chickasaw, working at Peter Joe Hamilton and Chickasaw School. She was also an employee of the Chickasaw Police Department, and the Kreme Bar for many years. She attended Saraland Assembly and Snow Road Baptist Church. Mary and her husband were also known for their bookmark ministry, in which they helped for over twenty years to spread God’s love with encouraging words on distributed bookmarks, a vocation that will continue to inspire.The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff, nurses, and caregivers of Gulf Coast Rehab who were so loving, gracious, and went above and beyond to deliver excellent care to Mary. Thank you for all you do.Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Saraland. Visitation begins at 10:00AM. Service at 11:00AM. Interment will immediately follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
