

Melda was born March 2, 1925 in Oxford, Alabama. She attended high school and, later in life, enrolled in the Gadsden School of Trade where she achieved certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, her vocation for many years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Saraland, Alabama and ultimately became a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama.
She is survived by her son Guy Wayne McCurdy of Escatawpa, Mississippi, daughter Melda Anne (Joe) Tipp of Mount Vernon, AL; grandchildren Jeremy Wayne McCurdy of Escatawpa, MS, Robert Cayce (Mandy) McCurdy of Saraland, AL, Gene Bolden, Debra Tipp (Wallace) Newburn of Citronelle, AL; great grandchildren Brandon Lacey, Braden (Niki) Lacy, Braxton McCurdy, Bryce McCurdy, Joseph (Hannah) Newburn, Justin Newburn, Jasmen Newburn; great great grandsons Jason Newburn, Lucas Newburn, Leighton Lacy; great great granddaughter Lanely Grace Lacy; sisters Carolyn Chatham and Mary (Boots) Roberts of Pinson, AL; caregivers Lynn Smith (15 years), Norine Walker; honorary granddaughter Hope Johnston; first cousins Clara Jo Willingham and Martha Anne Morrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melda is preceded in death by her parents Robert Berry Huckeba & Annie Lee Paris Huckeba; stepmother Mattie Lee Huckeba; husband Guy O. McCurdy; foster son Mike Medders; brothers Demar Huckeba, Robert Lee Huckeba, Billy Joe Huckeba, and Carl Huckeba.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Central Church of Christ in Saraland, Alabama. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM. Service begins at 2:00 PM. At a later date, interment of ashes will be at Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston, AL.
