

Aslin Guillermina de Mowett, known as “Tita” by all her family and friends was born in Panama City, Panama on June 2, 1934 to Osborne Doswell and Bertha de Doswell. Aslin was only 10 years old when her mother passed away and was raised by her maternal grandparents on the Island of Bastimento in the Province of Bocas del Toro, Panama.
Aslin completed her elementary and middle school in Bocas del Toro and moved back to Panama City to complete her high school education. She attended the Professional High School in Panama City, graduating with a degree in accounting. At the young age of seventeen she took on the role of a mother for her two younger sisters, Bertha and Melida.
Aslin was married to Alfredo Mowett, now deceased. Aslin and Alfredo were blessed with six children: Olga, Lorna, Inda, Alfredo Jr., Rene and Mery. Aslin was a loving and caring mother and she dedicated her life to her children. She also shared her love outside the family and would help everyone she knew.
Aslin and her husband became one of the first black Panamanian entrepreneurs to start their own crafted shoemaking business. Aslin was the creative force, designing the shoes, handbags and belts. Together they ran a very successful business for many years.
She believed that education was essential to help her children reach a strong level of success. She encouraged and supported them to obtain university degrees. Her dream came true as all of her children became professionals in different fields.
After raising her family, she decided to return to school and continued with higher education at the University of Panama, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Later, she worked as a Budget Assistant for the US Army, Garrison Division, in Panama and retired after 20 years of service.
In addition to her skills as a shoe and accessory designer, Aslin was a very multifaceted woman. She had a passion for cooking and gardening. She loved to experiment with different flavors and dishes from around the world. Her family and friends adored her cooking She was not just a great cook - she was a “home chef”. She had a beautiful floral and vegetable garden and she took impeccable care of it. She loved to create beautiful arts and crafts and enjoyed sewing outfits for her children - which were stunning. Aslin, enjoyed listening to music and collecting CD’s from a variety of music genres. She loved to sing and play the piano. And, her dogs and cats - well they became her spoiled children.
Aslin loved to shop! She always made sure that her family was very well dressed and coordinated. In her spear time she enjoyed doing crosswords, sudoku or reading books and magazines.
Of all the holidays, Christmas was her favorite! Her house was fully decorated with the most beautifully festive decorations. Every year she would add a few new pieces to her Nativity set- which grew to be a very large Nativity village. Her house was filled with the aroma of her baking and the sounds of Christmas carols from all different countries.
Aslin, accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord at a very young age. Her faith in the Lord gave her the inner strength to face the many difficult situations throughout her life. She was an avid and dedicated listener and reader of Christian programs and literature. During her visits to the US, she would attend the Tabernacle Church in Sarasota. She loved Christian music and her two favorite hymns were Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art and her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23:1-6.
Aslin leaves this life cherishing and being cherished by her beloved family:
Her children: Olga Rodriguez (Oscar Rodriguez), Lorna Kamath, Dr. Inda Mowett, Alfredo Mowett Jr, Rene Mowett and Mery Mowett. Her Sisters: Bertha Taylor, Melida Nelson (Claudio Nelson). Her Grandchildren: Oscar Rodriguez Jr. (Jennifer Rodriguez), Orlando Rodriguez (Vanessa Rodriguez), Randy Abernathy, Christina Abernathy. Her Great Grandchildren: Tatiana and Antonio Rodriguez, and Hayle Abernathy. Her Nephews and nieces: Deborah and, Sheila Taylor. Claudio Nelson, Odetta Muhammad (Khalik Muhammad), Omar Nelson, (Lakeisha Nelson), Tanya Mc Duffie, (Gregory Mc Duffie). Cousins: Vincent Ford, Fernando Ford, Leonora Geno, Ricardo Regis, Nelva Coates
And, a host of extended family members and beloved friends.
