Barbara "Sue" Smith of Sarasota, Florida was born on October 14, 1946 in Pensacola, Florida to the late William and Doris Hathaway. She passed away on February 21, 2026 in Sarasota County, Florida at the age of 79 with her daughter by her side.
Sue was a well-respected, inspiring nurse and educator in the Sarasota community for many years.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Andrea "Andi" Sotolongo; and two grandchildren, James and Gabriella.
A visitation will be held at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home - Wiegand Chapel, located at 7454 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231, on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location on February 27, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a special nursing honor guard presentation at 5:30 pm. The celebration will continue with refreshments immediately after the service.
Memorial donations in Sue's memory may be made to CHADD-Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
