

Carol B. Davenport, 96, died today in Sarasota, FL. Native of Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Howard O. Babcock of Buffalo and the late Mrs. H. Cowles Wadsworth of Buffalo and Naples, FL. She graduated from Chatham Hall, Chatham, VA, Bennett Junior College and the New York State College for Teachers, Buffalo. Mrs. Davenport married David W. Davenport and moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1951.
During her 25 years in Cleveland, Mrs. Davenport was an active volunteer. She served as President of the Junior League of Cleveland, President of The Benjamin Rose Institute, Chairman of the Assembly Ball of the Recreation League, and on several health and welfare boards of directors.
Moving to Sanibel with Mr. Davenport in 1974, Mrs. Davenport became the Sanibel Community Association’s first Executive Secretary and later the first Volunteer Coordinator of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation. She also served as a Director and President of the Island Water Association, a community water company.
From 1985 to present, Mrs. Davenport has been a resident of Sarasota County, Florida. She has been a volunteer court mediator for the 12th District Court of Sarasota County, Florida for 20 years.
Mrs. Davenport was a member of the Junior League of Cleveland, the Garden Club of Cleveland, the Founders’ Garden Club of Sarasota, and the Casey Key Bath Club.
Mrs. Davenport is survived by her daughter, Carolyn W. Davenport, Esq., and grandchild, David Dumas. She is preceded in death by her son, David Nicholas Davenport, and a stepdaughter, Diane Davenport Alves.
A memorial service will be held on a later date.
