Donald James Morfee, 93, of Sarasota, FL passed away on February 19, 2017. Don was born on February 3, 1924 in Gary, Indiana. He was a student at Michigan State University when World War II was declared and he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp, where he flew P-51 Fighter Mustangs. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to the university where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in Engineering. He later received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Michigan State. In 1946 he married Evelyn Ann Heflin and they enjoyed 70 years together. After retiring as President of an engineering firm they moved to Bird Key, Sarasota. Donald is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Susan (Philip) Cartwright of Lake Oswego, OR; a son, Scott Morfee of New York City, NY; three grandchildren, Brian, Tim and Kevin Marshall and four great grandchildren, Gracie, Sara, Reed and Nate. Services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to your favorite charity.
