Ernest Lee Cain, 81, passed away at the Springs at Lake Point Woods in Sarasota FL on Wednesday August 6, 2014. Ernie was born on November 9, 1932 in Webster Springs, Webster County, West Virginia the son of Alfred C. Cain and Bertha Mae Butcher Cain. He graduated Baltimore Polytechnic Institute June 1950 and joined the Air Force. He proudly served our country his entire life. While in the Air Force he attended Radio Operations School and Primary Management at Strategic Air Command. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with three loops, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and was a veteran of the Korean war serving 14 years in the Air Force. He then joined the Army receiving training as a sharpshooter for the M-14 Rifle, ATP21-114 Code of Conduct Military Justice Geneva Convention, CBR Training, and Radiological Monitor Instrument training. He proudly served with the Judge Advocate General's office and conducted inquiries in Vietnam during the Vietnam war. He received the National Defense Service Medal with an oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Medal of Honor (2D CL), Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge. He served in the Army 7 years before retiring from the military and went back to school. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Missouri Southern State College in Joplin Missouri graduating Cum Laude in 1978. He then worked for the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare 4 years before transferring to the US Department of Defense and retiring in 1996. He was proceeded in death by his former wife and friend Margaret Ann Harkrader, his half sister Ivy Lue Cain, brothers Alfred Cain Jr., and John Aaron Cain. He is survived by his loving wife Valerie Saba Thomas, his brother Frank Cain and his wife Marie, sisters Ann Cain Glosson and Betty Cain Wilmoth. His sons Ronne Cain and his wife Vanessa, John Cain, David Cain, and Daniel Cain. His daughters Donna Cain-Shipley, Sarah and her husband George Metcalf. His grandchildren Amanda Cain, April Cain, Adam Cain, Elizabeth Cain, Melissa Shipley, Michael Shipley, Samantha Metcalf, Jennifer Crowell, and Charley Cain. Nine great-grandchildren Wesley Schwab, John Schwab, Bradley Pugh, Makayla Pugh, Marissa Pugh, Madison Pugh, Matthew Richards, Kyrie Richards, and Catheryn Richards. As well as Many Nieces and Nephews.
