I met Howard only about 2 years ago in the condo.  We went to the beach and talked at the pool and he invited me for lunch one day. He was kind and gentle. Then Covid hit and I didn't see him. We spoke before his back surgery was scheduled and he said he had his recovery all taken care of. He was a tough strong man. Then I had a death in my own family and was distracted. I realized i hadn't checked on him and when I called I was devastated to hear he has passed away.  Its painful to say the least.  Miss your special way. 



My memory of Howard is his thoughtfulness and kindness

Howard was my first friend I met when I moved to California in 1997. We were friends ever since even after he moved back to Florida.  I remained in contact with him after his 4th back surgery and heart attack while still in the hospital. He helped my 93 yr old mom shop for food post covid. He is a giving, warm and loyal friend. My heart aches.


Howard,

I will sorely miss your humerous texts,
The sound of your voice even more.
I got to know you all too late-
But long enough to adore.

      You became a special part of my life. I will cherish the relationship always.

These lyrics embodied you in my eyes: your selfless generosity, your quest for life experiences, your ability to be in the moment, your willingness to take risks come what may. All of these I admired you for, always amazed at how you lived life.
  We were polar opposites. You: street smart, socially unbridled, tough, 100 percent Jewish. I: book smart, more refined, softer, 12 percent Jewish. And we gelled over sports, health and a spiritual quest that looked for truth.
  I have known you 36 years and consider you a bro, a mentor a friend. Your passing is painful. Do I mourn your loss or celebrate your life? I cannot do one without the other.
  You are now "round the (next) corner." I'll see you there.

I knew Howie from elementary school through high school. We walked to elementary school so saw each other regularly. In middle school grade seven we both had Lou  Alu as our teacher. Howie and Mr Alu did not always see eye to eye on issues.
The ties that are made with the people you grew up with are stronger then you know. May we all find peace in our sorrow. I am thankful fir the friends we had in Paramus and it is hard to see them go.

Howard Metz and I were acquaintances in Paramus, New Jersey where we both went to school during our formidable years.  He lived on Diane Place, I lived on Fredrick Street...not far from each other.
After high school he eventually ended up in California, I went south to Florida!
We lost touch until a couple of years ago when he moved to S. Florida to help out his mother.
Diane Persheid Cooper got us in touch with each other and a budding friendship began...again.
We talked constantly, visited often (infrequently lately because of Covid) but we became close friends.
Howard was a smart man, caring, funny, and a good friend to all he touched. He also appreciated his Paramus roots and we often reminisced about the good old days. Howard was also planning to go with me to our 50th high school reunion until it was cancelled.
Our relationship made me realize just how important my roots are because individuals like Howard were very much a part of them.
Howard...rest in peace...you will be missed but never forgotten!




From the classrooms at Memorial School in Paramus, to Eastbrook Jr. High and on to PHS.... he was always a part of my life.
We hardly knew each other by the time I found him on FB! FB is good for some things! We became very good friends! We made a connection that remained an unbreakable force and a constant support  from that day almost 10 years ago until the present. 
Howard was a man of great integrity, unlimited kindness, sweet compassion and hilarious humor.  He will be missed very much in the days and years ahead. 
I am happy he is with his family once again. I know how much he missed them all!
Howard, rest loose... and laugh lots with Ralphie,  give Dave it in Da Neck, and hugs for mom and dad! 
We miss you and love you.  Remember, you’re just around the corner!
