James Francis Lutz

James "Jim" Francis Lutz, 92, of Sarasota County, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026. Born February 9, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland, Jim lived a rich and dedicated life defined by hard work, community commitment, and an enduring love for his family. He was raised in Baltimore, where he attended St. Ambrose School and graduated from Sparrows Point High School, proudly competing on the cross-country and track teams. He furthered his education by earning an Associate in Arts degree and other advanced degrees. Jim honorably served his country in the United States Navy before embarking on a remarkable 44-year career at the historic Sparrows Point Plant of Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Starting on the floor and working his way up through the ranks, he ultimately became an accomplished Industrial Engineer. Demonstrating a tireless work ethic, Jim also lent his talents part-time as a tax preparer and as a Maryland-licensed Realtor. In 1996, he retired and moved to the sun-drenched shores of Sarasota, Florida.

He is survived by his loving companion and partner, Mary Ann Malone; his daughters, Cheryl Ann Lichtenberg and her husband Myles, and Catherine Lisa Lawlor and her husband Scott and their mother Julia Templon (née Heller); and his stepdaughter, Sheila J. Bentz and her husband Michael. He was the cherished grandfather of Chase Berman, Ashley Berman, and Regan Lawlor; and his step granddaughter Kelly Lanier, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Jim was the son of the late Charles O. and Ethel V. Lutz, and was preceded in death by his second wife Arlene Lutz (née Krumbine); as well as his brothers, Joseph C., Richard P., and Charles L. Lutz.

A Committal and Scattering Service to be held on Thursday August 27th, 2026 at 11am at the Memorial Garden of Faith Lutheran Church, located at 7750 Beneva Rd Sarasota, Florida 34238.
