Loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on June 16, 2018 in Sarasota Florida. Originally from Worcester, MA., Kay enjoyed a full life filled with family, dear friendships, love, art, writing and travel. Kay's passion was creating art, teaching art and writing later in life. She trained in art under Jennie Lea Knight, and James Twitty. Kay worked in Alexandria with the N. VA. Art League which later evolved into the now famous Topedo Factory. She also studied at the Corcoran Art School. In the 70’s, the family moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where Kay’s art reflected the wide open spaces she experienced there. Upon returning to the states, Kay became fascinated with the teachings of Carl Jung and studied his writing extensively through the Jung Society. Kay sought to understand people as she often felt misunderstood by others in her search for meaning.
Kay began writing after moving to St Lucia. She started several book clubs and writing groups over the years there and in Barbados. They moved to Sarasota in the early 90's and Kay went back to college to earn her degree with high honors at Eckerd College in Creative Writing and Art. She has written two books, You Have Spirit and A Seeker's Canvas - A Journey with Art. Kay created a fabulous circle of friends and Florida family here in Sarasota. Much love and appreciation to the women: Linda, Joyce and especially Melissa who gave her strength and support through her husband’s long journey with Alzheimers. Kay loved and cared for you all very much.
Kay requested a private burial and will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Bob, at the Unitarian Church’s Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Girl’s Inc. Kay is survived by her loving daughter, Robyn Strobel of Virginia and granddaughter Elise Strobel.
