Obituary of Lawrence Hubert Brown
Lawrence Hubert “Larry” Brown, age 72, died on March 14, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida. Larry was born May 18, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Jessie Amanda Murr and Otis Lawler “Jack” Brown. He was named for his Great Uncle Lawrence Lawler and his paternal Grandfather John Hubert Brown. Larry graduated from New Albany Indiana High School and attended Hanover College, and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. An accomplished musician, his professional career was spent in the musical instrument industry, which included a 20-year stint working with Steinway & Sons piano dealers. Larry was also an organist for various churches over the years. He served on the Board of Christ Church (Old North Church) in Boston, and, while in Boston, Larry graduated from the Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. During his retirement in Sarasota, Larry was an enthusiastic volunteer at the Caritas Food Pantry and at the Church of the Redeemer, where he served as a lector and usher, edited the church’s cookbook, and was the founder of the Fine Arts Book Club. In addition to his delicious cooking, Larry will be remembered fondly for his creative wit and his editing skills. He is survived by many friends and his sister, Martha Ruth Brown, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Sarasota, Florida. For online tributes, please visit
