Lee will be forever remembered by his beloved wife and best friend Rose, and his sons and their wives, Richard (Karen), Stephen (Diane), James (Lee Ann) and Joseph (Elizabeth). Lee will be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Lee will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, including Cathy Layton of Sarasota, nephews and extended family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard T. Layton.
Lee served in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War and was discharged as first lieutenant in 1945. He is an alumnus of University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and Harvard Business School.
A native of Chester, Pennsylvania, Lee began his career in banking in 1945 at the Delaware County National Bank in Chester, Pennsylvania. DCNB merged and became Southeast National Bank where Lee was promoted to Senior Vice President and head of lending. In 1980 he was elected President and CEO of Frankford Trust Company, where he later became Chairman.
During his banking career, Lee served on the boards of numerous organizations, including Penn Delco School District, Chester Rural Cemetery, National Foundation of the March of Dimes, Riddle Hospital, Robert Morris Associates, Tyler Arboretum, and Abington Hospital.
Lee retired from banking in 1994 when he and Rose relocated to Sarasota. Here he served purposefully and tirelessly on the finance committees of Bay Village and Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, where he and Rose served as elders.
Friends and family can attend a Celebration of Lee's Life at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 28 at 12:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, 6135 Beechwood Ave, Sarasota, FL 34231.
