Marty attended and graduated from Bourne High School in 1964. Upon graduating from High School, he volunteered for the service and served with the Seabees a construction unit of the Navy in Vietnam. Marty served with distinction from 1965 to 1969. In May of 1966 while serving in Phu Bai, he received the Fleet Marine Combat Operations Insignia for combat service at Phu Bai, Vietnam. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal for service at Phu Bai from April to December of 1966.
After leaving the service, he attended Wentworth Institution and earned an Associates Degree in Engineering in July of 1972. Upon graduation, he worked for Gallo Construction Company and worked on the project to construct the Veteran Cemetery at Otis Air Force Base. Several years later, Marty began his own company – Johnson Development Company – and completed several projects in the area such as the Buzzards Bay Professional Center, Pocasset Village Marketplace, Onset Condo Association, and a commercial building in Wareham. MA. In 1995, Marty moved to Florida where he continued his career in commercial and residential real estate development.
In 1975 Marty was a member of the Massachusetts Association of Land Survey & Civil Engineering. From 1983 – 1984 Mary served as Chairman to the Board for the Greater Bourne – Sandwich Chamber of Commerce, and in May of 1985 he was awarded, the Businessman of the Year award.
On November 23rd, 1974 Marty married, the love of his life, Carla Johnson. On June 5th, 1979 they welcomed their son, Nicholas Johnson, into the world. Over the years Marty and Carla enjoyed entertaining friends, traveling, and spending time with his family on the holidays. Marty was an avid golfer and a member of TPC Prestancia, and Pocasset Golf Club of Pocasset. Mass. which he along with others, transitioned the club from public to private. He also enjoyed watching his beloved New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, and Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his wife, Carla and son, Nicholas (Stephanie) he is survived by his sister, Nancy Sherlock of Naples Florida, and brother Richard Johnson of Cataumet, MA and many nieces and nephews.
Interment Services with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 A.M on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Sarasota National Cemetery.
