Mary Jo (“Jo”) Eichelberger (nee Cunningham) left this life on Friday, July 10, 2015, in Sarasota, FL. Jo is survived by Thomas Spicer Eichelberger III, her husband of 67 years, and her four children: Jane Krayesky (John); Thomas S. Eichelberger IV (Marsha); Nelson Eichelberger; and Nancy Sullivan (Gary) as well as her grandchildren; David and Daniel Krayesky (Debbie and great grandsons Michael and Marcus); Ashley Winklbauer (Jason and great grandsons Spicer and Mahlon); and Gabrielle, Rebekah, David (Karyme, and great granddaughter Elena), Thomas, Haleigh and Mary Grace Eichelberger.
Jo was predeceased by her four sisters, Ethel Eshenbaugh, of Phoenix, AZ; Eleanor Bradley, of Mannington, WV; Alice Rose Leake of Tacoma, WA; and Nancy Watson, of Morgantown, WV.
Jo and Tom enjoyed life in Sarasota as snowbirds wintering on Siesta Key for many years before becoming full-time Florida residents in 1996, first on Siesta Key and then at Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club. Having always shown an artistic flair, Jo studied watercolor painting later in life and was active at the Venice Art Center creating beautiful landscapes that were featured in family Christmas cards.
Formerly of Cincinnati, OH, Jo enjoyed a lifetime of playing golf with her favorite partner, Tom, both recreationally and in league play. Jo and Tom were married December 27, 1947 following an historic blizzard; so enjoying the warm weather year-round was one of their great pleasures.
Arrangements have been made for a “Celebration of a Life Well Lived” Memorial Service beginning at 11AM on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, 7474 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Following the service, interment will take place at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution be made to either Alzheimer’s Association of Sarasota, 3277 Fruitville Rd #1A, Sarasota, FL 34237 or Tidewell Hospice House, 5957 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34238.
