

Maureen Meenan died on Jan. 16, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on Aug. 1, 1931 to her parents Laurence and Beatrice Grennan (Carey). She is predeceased by her parents and an older brother, Laurence.
A child of Irish immigrants during the great depression, she excelled in school. Living only steps away from the Brooklyn Museum and Botanical Gardens she enjoyed all that they offered.
She received her Nursing Diploma from Long Island College Hospital. While working as a nurse at the hospital she continued her education by receiving a degree from St. Johns University, Brooklyn. In February 1958 she married Jim Meenan and very quickly raised a family of 2 boys and 2 girls. Nursing positions at the Bronx VA Hospital and a NYC vocational HS led to more studies. She received a Masters Degree from Hunter College, NYC.
A 20 year career as a Professor of Nursing was the dream come true. Maureen and Jim then retired to the warmth of Florida. During their retirement years there was travel across the US and a few trips to the old country and other places of great interest and enjoyment. Many happy memories.
Maureen is survived by her husband of almost 67 years and four children, Larry, Ohio, Jim, NC, Cathy Owen, Alabama and Monica, NY. Also 5 grand children, Megan, Daniel, Stephen, Vincent and Evan and one great grand child, Sevy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tidewell Hospice for their comfort and kindness during this trying time. Also the caring staff of 81Oaks Memory unit who night and day looked after Maureen’s every need.
There will be a Celebration of Maureen’s life on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at Robert Toale & Sons, 7454 S. Tamiami Tr., Sarasota, Fl. 34231
