It is with profound sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce that Phyllis Lipshutz, age 86, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on July 27, 1940, in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she would often visit Atlantic City where she found the love of her life, Arthur Lipshutz. Their story would span almost seventy wonderful and good years, blessed with three sons, and a life full of joy, travel and loving companionship.
She attended Thadeus Stevens Elementary School, Cook Junior High and Philadelphia High School for Girls, where she graduated in 1958. She attended Nursing School at Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, and then, at age 50, she earned her B.S. Degree in Health Arts.
A dedicated Registered Nurse, Phyllis spent her career caring for others with profound compassion, grace, and professionalism. Her legacy of love, kindness, humor, positivity and service will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many patients she touched throughout her lifetime.
Phyllis was a proud, longtime member of the Sarasota Jewish Chorale, the “40’s” girls, and other groups where she could be found among dear friends. While she was a Sarasota resident for 42 years, she never let go of her Philadelphia roots. She was an avid Phillies fan, watching almost every game without fail. When she wasn’t watching baseball, you could find her watching Jeopardy or doing her morning crossword puzzle and daily Wordle, always at the ready with the right answer.
She loved reading novels and listening to opera on the radio and walking on the warm beaches of Siesta Key. She was exceptionally proud of her family and wrote personal journals for each of her grandchildren. She loved to travel and cruise with her husband and friends to new places all over the world.
Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur Lipshutz; her three loving sons, Robert Lipshutz of Cape Coral, Florida; Stuart Lipshutz and his wife, Dori, of Rockville, Maryland; and Gary Lipshutz and his wife, Antoinette, of Metuchen, New Jersey. She is also survived by her four cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Jake, Sophie and Alexandra, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Jasmine and Jaslene, who held a special place in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rose Schnee, originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but later of Sarasota, Florida, and her sister, Jacqueline Miller and her husband, Barrie Miller, of Chicago, Illinois.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery, 801 Circus Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida.
