Robert Bew was born in St. Petersburg, FL. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School, Elon College in Elon, NC and Southeastern Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He was ordained in the United Church of Christ in 1962, and served in Cana and Virginia Beach, VA, and Ormond Beach and Sarasota, FL.
He was a volunteer with Resurrection House for many years. In 1985 he authored "Jewish Beginnings of our Christian Faith." He has also written memoirs of congregations he has served. For many years he has volunteered with children's programs and taught the Open Class and helped teach the United Class of Sarasota Community Church.
He is survived by his wife Mary; son Bob Bew, Jr., Kelli and their daughter Kayla of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughter Deborah and Dr. David Liu, and their children Delphine, Clemens, and Endymion of Durham, NC; and son David and Robyn Bew of Los Angeles, CA; stepson David Theetge of Johns Island, SC and stepdaughter Janis Horn of Miami, FL. He is also survived by his brother George Bew and his family, and brothers-in-law Rockwell Livingston and Gordon Butler and their families.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Sunnyside Village Chapel, 5260 Menno Simons Pkwy, Sarasota, FL on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception.
