Born in Utica, New York, Roger was the son of the late John and Jean (Prescott) Vanderwood. He was raised in Whitesboro, New York, graduated from Utica College, and earned a master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University.
Roger was employed by Shell Oil Company where he worked until his retirement.
He married Abby Pundick on June 20, 1964. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, David Vanderwood and his wife, Jimmie of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; his daughter, Dana McFadden and her husband, Patrick. of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; his grandchildren, Coe Vanderwood and his wife, Cynthia; John Vaderwood, Katy Temple and her husband, Kyle and Logan McFadden and his wife, Kimberly; his great-grandchildren, Elijah, Emerson, Coleman, and Charlie; and his brother, Barry Vanderwood of Utica, New York.
