Serafina Marie “Sally” Randazzo was born in Kansas City Oct. 6, 1917, to Salvatore Patti and Serafina Franco both from Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily. Sally celebrated her 101st birthday last year in Venice, Florida where she lived near her two daughters. She married John A. Randazzo in 1941 and they had three children: Patti Ann Randazzo (DeLano), John Allan Randazzo, Nancy M. Randazzo (Caviar). They leave six grandchildren: Tom and Michael Caviar; John, Anthony and Sara Randazzo; and Christopher DeLano as well as three great-grandchildren Molly DeLano, Zack and Lucas Randazzo. She is survived by her sister Mrs. Everett (Carm) Smith in Gladstone. “Nana” was funny: when asked, at her birthday party, the secret to living to 100 she replied “Well, not dying, I guess.” She was in Time Square the day World War II ended. She was trying to find her husband Johnny in the crowd and (like the nurse in the famous photo) she told us, “I’ve never been kissed so many times in my life.” John died at age 90 in Kansas City. A family celebration of her life was held in Venice. Tidewell Hospice helped her pass peacefully. Donations to Hospice in her memory would be welcomed.
