Whether you knew her as Mom, Susan, Sue, Susie or Aunt Susie, Susan Hornauer positively touched the lives of many. Sue is survived by her children Betsy Clark, John Hornauer and Katie Bennett, her beloved sister Joan Hornauer, and her niece Jennifer Jocks and nephews Kevin and Jeff Hornauer. Susan is preceded in death by her loving parents Charlie and Bernice Hornauer and her brother Carl. Susan naturally fell into many caretaking roles over the years: beloved mother, inspiring swim instructor, conscientious and learned social worker at Outer Drive Hospital, and loving caretaker of special needs adults living in group homes. Susan was fortunate to work at Publix Supermarkets for the last 19 years where her strong work ethic and incredible approach to customer service made her unforgettable and appreciated by all. Local fireman, policeman and coworkers always knew they could satisfy their sweet tooth and get energized by getting candy from “The Candy Lady” whenever they wanted while shopping and working at Publix. After retirement from Publix, Sue looked forward to getting her daily dose of hugs and kind words from her caring friends that worked there. Susan was born and raised in Wyandotte, Michigan and lived in other wonderful communities within the state over her lifetime. However, living in Sarasota, Florida, particularly Gulf Gate Estates with her son John, has been closest and dearest to her heart. Susan enjoyed swimming countless laps in the pool, going on long bike rides with her friends, and helping many neighbors by tending to their yards. Susan was also lucky to have her very good friend Angie across the street and loved her visits until the very end of her life. Sue Hornauer’s sunny disposition, kindness, and thoughtfulness will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.
