With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Agnes York (Ullman) (née Kampert)—a remarkable woman who exemplified incredible strength and resilience. Agnes passed away on April 20th, 2025, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (SK), at the age of 90.
Agnes was born on her family farm near Punnichy, SK, on January 23rd, 1935, to Thomas Kampert and Rose Kampert (née Degenstein). In 1952, Agnes married Edward Ullman, and they resided on their farm near Quinton, SK, until relocating, in 1962, to their rural store, gas station, and television repair shop, located just south of Raymore, SK. In 1977, Ed, Agnes, and family moved to the town of Raymore. Ed passed away in 1985, after which Agnes met John York, and they married in 1998. Subsequently, they moved to Perdue, SK, and then ultimately settled in Saskatoon.
Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her son, Ken (Terry); daughter, Janice (Joel); son-in-law, Ed; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jordan, and Chelsey; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her father, Thomas; mother, Rose; stepfather, Albert; first husband, Edward; subsequent husband, John; son, Daryl; daughter, Kathy; daughter-in-law, Janice; and her grandparents.
Agnes was a multi-talented woman who embraced both her creative and entrepreneurial spirits. A gifted and published writer, she shared her insight, humour, and life through her stories and poems. Music was an integral part of her life; she sang, played a variety of instruments, including the banjo, and found joy in performing. Home was often filled with melody and laughter, and those moments remain some of our most treasured memories. Agnes also cooked, baked, crocheted, knitted, and sewed, creating many outfits for her two daughters throughout their younger years.
Agnes was a proud business owner (with husband Ed), and later she became a dedicated office manager. While raising a family and spending hours each day in the family store, Agnes relentlessly practiced typing in order to pass a speed test—it was required to obtain a manager’s position at the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance office in Raymore. One could hear the tapping of the keys after dinner and well into the night. Of course, she was successful and landed the position, where she worked until she retired at age 60. This is just one example of her drive and determination, which inspired others and motivated us to strive for our best.
In addition to her talents, Agnes had a great sense of humour, which has been passed down through the generations. Witty and always ready to share a chuckle, even in difficult times, she could always lift the mood.
Agnes lived her life fully and never wasted a moment. We are all lucky to have had her in our lives. She leaves behind family and friends who adore her and a legacy of love, laughter, music, and strength.
A service will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, SK, on May 14th, 2025, at 11am. Following, a graveside service will take place at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Raymore, SK, on May 14th, 2025, at 3pm.
