I was saddened to hear about Al's passing this morning.  I met him at the "awesome" Rutherford Rink 11 years ago.  We shared many stories trying to warm up between periods! His keen sense of humour and his passion for the game made us instant friends. 
 60 years of watching Huskie hockey at the Rutherford ...WOW...that has to be some kind of record! They should give him an award just for endurance...lots of years of ups and downs and cold feet! I'm sure that he is still watching.. but now from a warm and comfortable seat where he can see the whole sheet of ice. He is undoubtedly laughing at us as we stand freezing behind the goalie!  My "rink guys" and I were wondering if something was wrong as we hadn't seen him at Huskie games since early last season. I can now stop looking for him. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our condolences to the Ritch family, remembering Al all the way back to the Weston Bakery days then numerous years at the SGCC, AL always took the time to ask how we as a family were doing, which was always appreciated, and portrayed exactly the kind of man Al was.

We are sorry to hear of your loss, Mr Ritch was a very Special Man. We loved having in come into the Td Bank at Stonebridge. Once he came and told us how he was going to be in his Grandson's Wedding and guess what I'm going to be the Best Man. He was so proud and brought pictures in. His lunches with his daughter. He will truely be missed here. 
May he always be your Shining Star I The Evening Sky.

so sorry to hear of Al's passing he was a treasure at the willows with a big smile and a friendly nod.

Al was a great man, full of laughter and stories. His love for hockey and golf was true to his heart. He may not of said much but he truly loved his family. He will surely be missed. He now is united with his true love of life again,Opal.

I will miss this dear sweet man. We didn't get together very often but when we did, he would make me feel so special and he always made me laugh.  I am happy for him that he has finally been reunited with Opal who was the love of his life.  Allene, Donna, Judy, Allen and families, I am so very sorry for your loss.  Your Dad/Grandpa will always be with you in your hearts and you will feel him cheering his Grandchildren on at their various activities just like he always did when he was here.  Rest well dear Al, I will remember you always with a smile and that warm fuzzy feeling you get from the thought of someone who has touched your heart.

Our family got to know Al through my sister Pat &Bill Thomson and his love for hockey. We always had a good visit at whatever rink we met at and especially when he came to Davidson.  He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. Our sincere sympathy to his family,

So sorry to hear of your dad's passing!!  He had such a good attitude towards life it is little wonder he lived into his 90's!!  Keep his memories close to your heart......he is united with your mom, again.  You lost a jewel but heaven gained another angel.

Al and Opal were special friends for the last number of years. We always enjoyed picking a different restaurant to eat at each month. I enjoyed my golfing coach and mentor at our time at the Willows. After moving we stayed in touch every couple of weeks and met each time we got back to Saskatoon. The golf was always enjoyable, and especially when Allene would let me be part of their golf time together. Unfortunately this has been a tough 2014 the last 6 months and we will be unable to attend the memorial for Allen. Pat's father passed away on the 17th of September, and we were just adjusting to that event, when her younger brother Gerard died on December 1st. I regret I didn't call Al that week, but I knew he would ask about
the family as he always did, and was not prepared to talk until after the service on the 13th. We will miss his happy smile whenever we saw him. We loved him dearly. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
