Anne Michaluk

Anne was born to Hnat and Katherine Hawryluk on August 6, 1926 in the Mink Creek district, MB. At 5 years of age the family moved to the Gardinia district north of Quill Lake, SK where she attended Gardenia School, and high school at the Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton.

Upon graduating Grade 12 in 1946, she taught at Glenlyon School, south of Gilbert Plains, MB where she met Stan who became her husband, May 10, 1947.

They purchased a farm situated between Quill Lake and Clair, SK. After having 5 children, Anne decided to teach again and taught at Bradgate School in the Nora, SK district.

As she didn’t have her teaching certificate, the superintendent convinced her to enroll at the Teacher's College in Saskatoon. She taught at Scrip school (country school) for 3 years and moved to Wadena where she accepted a teaching position in the elementary school until she retired.

After retirement she helped plan and publish the Wadena and District History book, and took on the job of curator of the Wadena Museum. She was also sacristan at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, an activity that she cherished.

In 2002 mom was honored at a gala awards ceremony held in Saskatoon and presented with the Golden Jubilee Medal of Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to the community by Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Linda Haverstock.

Of her many talents, sewing was upper most, she sewed all of our bridal and bridesmaid gowns as well as church banners for the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She loved to knit; we received sweaters, scarves, baby outfits and blankets, etc. until she realized the dye in the yarn was causing sores in the palms of her hands.

Spring of 2012, Mom and Dad moved to Columbian Manor in Saskatoon. Dad decided to move back to Wadena, he didn't like city living, Mom remained due to health reasons. In 2019, due to deteriorating health was moved to a personal care home until her passing.

Mom (Anne) will be lovingly remembered by her children Rosaline Winnichyn, Gloria (Marno) Hultin, Lucille (Reg) Kish, Lois Michaluk (Wout de Vos), and John (Sheryl) Michaluk; 7 grandchildren - Cathy (Brad) Medernach, Greg Hultin, Julie Hultin, Lisa (Jarit) Fraser, Scott Kish, Jeff (Becky) Michaluk, Shauna (Dallas) Souster and 14 great grandchildren.

Anne was predeceased by her husband Stan, her parents Hnat and Katherine (Syrnick) Hawryluk, 4 brothers and spouses Walter (Pauline), Steve, Morris, Paul (Pollyanna) and 4 siblings in infancy, numerous nieces and nephews on both sides; Stan's parents Fredko and Justina (Tycholis) Michaluk, brothers and sisters and their spouses, and son-in-law John Winnichyn. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Wadena, SK. Rite of Committal will follow in the Wadena Cemetery.
