Arnold passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 19, 2023 surrounded by love and family after a short battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his father-Emil, mother-Maria, and son-in-law, Larry Lemke. Arnold was the youngest and last surviving sibling of 11 children. Arnold’s family was his pride and joy. Left to mourn are his loving wife, Agnes (nee Ritter); daughters: Brenda Kriese (Brianna-Alex; Melanie (Jordan)-Levi, Paulina, Elijah; Logan); Rhonda Lemke (Laryssa (Brendan) Koa; Riley (Kaelyn); Liana (Will); and Barb Kriese (Scott), as well as special nephew David Welsh (Linda).
Arnold was born in Wohlynien, Ukraine. He was a WWII survivor after being taken to a concentration camp in Poland (controlled by the Soviets) from the ages of 9-14. He came to Canada in 1953 with his mother, joining his surviving family members, where he learned to speak English and eventually settled in Saskatoon where he met and married the love of his life, Agnes, in 1959. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary with family last fall. Arnold was a hard worker his entire life, starting out as a Blacksmith and retiring as a Journeyman Industrial Mechanic at Labatt’s Brewery when it closed in 1993. He received Labatt’s Award of Excellence in 1991 recognizing innovation and pursuit of excellence for his contribution to the design and installation of conveyor railings which had a major cost-saving effect. He also kept busy fixing cars and building various projects for family, friends, and neighbors on the side. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. He was a jack of all trades and a master of all, with his creativity always shining through. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting, and took his family on many treasured adventures. Arnold’s favorite camping spots included Delaronde Lake and Waden Bay (Lac La Ronge) where he and his family enjoyed close to 50 years of annual camping trips together. Family was always number one in his heart, while making friends wherever he went was his trademark. His smile and mischievous ways may be gone, “by golly”, but the fond memories will remain forever.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (627 Taylor Street East Saskatoon).
