

August "Gus" Phillips of Saskatoon passed away on April 30, 2015 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. He was the son of Michael and Ann (Behm), born on December 4th, 1919. Gus and Louise (Schmidtz) were married on November 9, 1942 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Calgary, AB. Gus was a WWII vet, farmer, grain buyer, taxi driver, store owner, harness maker and had other numerous occupations during his lifetime. Gus, Louise and family over the years, moved often to places such as Saskatoon, St. Gregor, St. Gertrude, Luseland and Meadow Lake, to name a few. He enjoyed dancing, auction sales and watching sports - boxing, curling, baseball and hockey. He is survived by his loving spouse Louise; daughter Audrey; sons Lorne, Daniel, David (Della), Mark, Murray (Joanne) and Lyle (Wendy); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister Peggy Rissling; sister-in-law Anne Smith; brother-in-law Leonard Joa; as well as numerous neices and nephews. He was predeceased by sons James "Jimmy" and Kenneth "Ken"; son-in-law Victor; grandson Bradley; brothers Mike, Joe and Otto; sisters Tilly, Emma, Annie and Molly; sisters-in-law Mary Phillips, Kay Phillips, Rose Joa, Edna Schmidtz, Marie Puetz, Elizabeth Schmidtz; brothers-in-law Mike Rissling, Joe Weber, John Burghart, Albert Schmidtz, Chris Schmidtz, Vern Smith, Joe Puetz and Ben Pohler. The Vigil for Gus will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8th and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th with Father Nestor Gregoire, OMI presiding and Monsignor Ray Senger as con celebrant, both services will be held at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church (222 Willow St, Saskatoon). Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sask Abilities Council (2310 Louise Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2C7) or to a charity of your choice.
