Auralyn (Lyn) Just, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on June 14, 2025, with her family by her side. Lyn was born September 29, 1942, in Regina, SK to Eric and Pearl Johnson of Regina, the first of two children. She was brought up in Regina to the age of 3 years, and then moved to Yorkton, SK with her parents after her father came back from serving in the Navy in WW2. Lyn took her elementary schooling at Burke and Simpson Schools in Yorkton and then went to the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. She commenced employment with the legal firm of Matheson and Milliken in 1960 as a legal secretary.
Lyn married David Just on June 17, 1961 and together they had two children, daughter, Sharilyn, and son Gregory David. Lyn worked as a legal steno and also worked at a Real Estate firm in Yorkton until 1974, when the family moved to Saskatoon where David was transferred with Morris Rod Weeder Co. Ltd. Lyn worked in the Hnatyshyn Law Firm in Saskatoon as a legal steno until 1980, when she went to work with the Queen's Bench Judges at the Court House in Saskatoon. In 1986, David was transferred to Regina and Lyn worked with the Queen's Bench Judges in Regina until 1990, when she went to work in the legal department of Co-operators Data Services Ltd., later to be sold to CGI, where she worked until her retirement at the end of 1998. Lyn loved the law, working with lawyers and Queen’s Bench Judges, she often reminisced about them and kept in contact during her retirement years with many of her colleagues. She absolutely loved her years in the legal business.
Lyn loved to create; she always had a project on the go, whether it was crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilting, watercolour painting, or some new craft she was trying out. Her hands were always busy! Lyn crocheted many baby outfits and baby afghans which she donated to the Ladies Auxiliary at the Royal University Hospital, as well as crocheted afghans of which many were given to the Salvation Army or other charities for them to distribute to those who needed them. If you looked under David and Lyn's bed you would find containers filled with Lyn's handiwork, ready to go into a craft show at Mayfair United Church, the Primrose Chateau Retirement Residence, or ready to be given to those who needed them. Lyn's skills were unique in that she always had many things on the go and many of them were of her own creation. She loved taking photographs and she and David have photo albums for each holiday they took, plus albums dating back to when they first started going together during school days right up to the present, some 63 years, all dated, names under the pictures, etc. She also had her own art portfolio of photographs she took that she painted from, so each of her watercolour paintings were her own original work- some pictures were painted from two or more of her photographs.
David and Lyn went on some great trips over the years and after retirement they spent their winters in Victoria, BC; the first years staying in their 5th wheel trailer at the West Bay Marina in Victoria where they made many friends.
Lyn was a loving wife and mother and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family, relatives, and friends. Lyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, David, on January 6, 2023, after 61 years of marriage. Her parents Eric and Pearl Johnson; father and mother-in-law Martin and Hulda Just; son-in-law John Smith; brothers-in-law Harvey (Madeline), Alvin (Margaret), Ken (Eldi), Lyle and Peter (Agnes). She is survived by her children Sharilyn Smith and Greg (Diane) Just; grandchildren Micheal (Randi), Jory (Precious), Julia, and Justin (Taylor); great-grandchildren Dante, Dawson, Dorian, Calia, and Calum. She is also survived by her brother Guy (Elena) Johnson; sister-in-law June Just; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
An Interment will be held at Orkney Cemetery near Yorkton, Saskatchewan at a later date with immediate family. Memorial donations can be made in Lyn's memory to the Saskatchewan Lung Association.
