September 21, 1967 – November 6, 2025
Barbara Lynn Gustafson (Bastian) was born on September 21, 1967. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side the evening of November 6, 2025.
Barb was predeceased by her dad, Marvin Bastian, her niece Brianne Gaudet, her brother-in-law, Trent Konecnik, and her foster brother Shannon Lavallée.
Barb is survived by her husband, Paul Gustafson, and their two daughters Emma, and Olivia, her mother, Verna Bastian, and siblings Annette (Jim) Bastian, Terry (Wendy) Bastian, Cheryl (Shelley) Bastian, and Leesa Konecnik. Her in-laws Rae and Shirley Gustafson, sister-in-law‘s Stephanie (Gerard) Jensen, Kirsten (Donald) Gaudet, and several nieces and nephews. She is also remembered by her extended family who brought her great joy.
Barb graduated from Western Christian College in 1985 where she met her high school sweetheart, Paul (perhaps a bad influence). They were married July 17, 1987. Barb adapted to all the crazy antics that Paul threw at her including driving the combine, tenting, too many late nights with no sleep and early morning work starts, as well as lots of wheelchair sports activities and all the equipment hauling and fixing that goes with it!
With Barb‘s caring nature, she gravitated towards her careers as a care aid and later on as an educational assistant. As an EA she met many friends and even had a chance to work in the same schools her daughters attended.
After many years of practice taking care of her siblings and nieces and nephews, Paul and Barb welcomed their long way awaited joys, Emma Charlotte in 2002 and Olivia Katherine in 2007.
As a family, Paul, Barb and the girls enjoyed many adventures travelling to places like Hawaii (Barb‘s favourite destination), cruising the Caribbean, Disneyland and Disney World. More recently, a summer road trip found them travelling through California, meeting many people who became close friends.
In 2012 Barb was diagnosed with breast cancer which she fought and overcame. At the end of 2019 the cancer returned as metastatic breast cancer. Since 2020 Barb’s unbelievable strength and resilience fought this disease until November 6, 2025.
Barb faced her long illness with unwavering courage and grace and never complained. She will always be remembered as a strong, quiet, resilient soul would do anything for anybody. A daughter, a sister, a life partner, a mother, and now an angel who will watch over us forever.
