Cara was born during a cold spell on January 5th, 1972, in Saskatoon, SK. She arrived to eager parents, Judy and Gary Hatchen, and would be a baby sister to her older brother, Collin Hatchen.
Cara spent many years trying to keep up to older brother Collin, which she was ultimately successful at. Growing up in the small town of Harris, SK, Cara was involved in a plethora of activities throughout her childhood and adolescence. She was a competitive figure skater, incredible volleyball player, and even held a provincial track and field record in shotput for many years. She liked to play hard, but also worked hard in school, in part because her father was one of her teachers. After high school, Cara trained as a disc jockey and was elated to work at radio stations in Yorkton, Lloydminster, and Winnipeg. The song Jolene, by Dolly Parton, quickly became a staple in her playlist. She eventually followed in her mother’s footsteps, becoming a hairdresser and working at her mother’s hair salon, Plus Ten, in Saskatoon. At 25, Cara became a mother to her daughter, Shelby. She was so excited to become a mom. Cara shared her love of music with her daughter, often hosting dance parties in their kitchen, or outside on the lawn. The home she built for the two of them was full of love, slurpees, and laughter. In 2000, Cara was tragically diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a progressive disease that changed her, and her family’s lives forever. Despite her illness, Cara remained in good spirits. Any time someone asked her how she was doing, she would meet them with a response of, “fantastic!” Cara was kind, stubborn, determined, fun, outgoing, and always kept a great sense of humour. She was always up for a game of crib, to sing a song or have a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. Cara was an exceptional daughter, sister, mother, and friend. She will be missed dearly.
Cara is survived by her parents, Judy and Gary Hatchen, her brother, Collin Hatchen, and her daughter, Shelby Hatchen.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer time, as she loved to be outside.
