Cecilia was born on January 15, 1939, in Sturgis, to Tom and Dehlia Durham. The youngest of ten siblings, she cherished every one of them deeply.
After graduating in 1960 from the Registered Nursing program at St. Paul’s Hospital, Cecilia devoted her life to caring for others. She spent much of her career in Labour and Delivery at St. Paul’s Hospital, as well as in the Emergency Department in North Battleford. Her true passion was welcoming new life into the world—she took great joy and pride in helping hundreds of babies take their first breaths.
Cecilia was known for her independence and her love of taking on new challenges and adventures. She loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders, but most of all she loved participating in and supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their activities. She believed that a day without laughter was a day lost. She delighted in playing practical jokes and continued to share her humour even in her final days. Family was always her highest priority.
Cecilia is lovingly remembered by her children: Laura (Brian) Mackay of Saskatoon; Joanne (David) Weninger of Rossland; and Grant (Susan) Vogelsang of Regina; her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brother, Tom Durham; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters and brothers, and other extended family members.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her primary health care providers, especially Dr. Penny Stalker, who cared so well for our mom over the years during her many health challenges until her retirement, and to Dr. Alyssa Antaya, who assumed Mom’s care with such grace and compassion. We are grateful to all the specialists, doctors, and nurses she encountered throughout her medical journey. We also wish to acknowledge Saskatoon Community Palliative Services for their support and guidance during Cecilia’s battle with cancer.
A special thank-you to the compassionate staff at the Hospice at Glengarda, who ensured she received the comfort and dignity she so deserved during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice at Glengarda through the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Parish (3339 Centennial Drive) in Saskatoon, with Rev. Fr. David Tumback officiating.
The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed through the service details section below.
