Dr. Dale Lloyd Zoerb passed away on Thursday August 1st at the age of 89 years. Dale was the second son of Eli and Marion Zoerb. He was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1935; their family moved to Tisdale when he was a young boy. Growing up Dale worked at Zoerb’s Bakery owned by his parents. He was a good athlete and played hockey and baseball and shared many fond memories of those times. He met his loving wife Maureen when they were in high school and they soon became ‘sweethearts’. After high school, he moved to Saskatoon to study Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and then specialized in Anesthesia. He worked at Saskatoon City Hospital for over 35 years and took pride in teaching Resident doctors throughout his career. In his leisure time, he excelled at curling and represented Saskatchewan at the Brier in 1972. When he retired, he enjoyed time with his family at Kipabiskau Lake (‘Kip”).
Maureen and Dale were partners in life for more than 70 years. They had five children: Kathy, Cheryl, Derek, Dalene and Darryl. They were blessed with nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. As a couple, they enjoyed lake time, cruises, bus tours throughout North America, fishing trips up north and overseas trips to Hong Kong and Shanghai. Maureen and Dale took their family on special holidays to Hawaii and Disneyland and on an adventurous camping trip to the Okanagan. He spent many hours, as a father and a grandfather, introducing water sports to the family.
Dale was a good provider, creating many memorable experiences for the whole family. A great joy in his life were his grandchildren. He loved to surprise them each visit to Kip with something new-be it a treehouse he built, purchase of a new water toy or making them a skating rink on the lake which grew bigger and better every winter. A favorite memory for his grandchildren was a water fight that started with small balloons and ended with him on the roof of the cabin spraying everyone with a water hose!
Dale had an interest in several hobbies including remote controlled boats and airplanes, model rockets, and he took Chinese cooking classes. He loved to barbecue and made delicious happy hour appetizers at the lake. He had many different pets including over 100 birds for which he built an outdoor aviary in their beautiful backyard. In the winter he displayed the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Christmas decoration that he made for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.
Dale will be missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters Kathy (Lawrence) Nutting, Cheryl (Les) LaRocque, Dalene (Rick) Newton, 9 grandchildren – Dustin (Amy), Jenna (Gareth), Matthew (Emily), Steven (Krista), Denae (Ryan), Reanne, Tom (Helen), Rob (Alicia), Julia (Joel); 12 great grandchildren: Hazel, Cowan, Henry, Sammy, Jackson, Emma, Gwendolyn, Cassandra, Zoey, Oliver, Eli and Luke; brother Melvin Zoerb (Helen), brother-in-law Borden Neil (Joan), and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Maureen, his parents Eli and Marion Zoerb, two sons Derek (infant) and Darryl (2015), in-laws Eleanor and Bordie Neil, brothers Warren and Larry Zoerb, former sister-in-law Donna Lyn Neil.
Our family would like to say “Thank You” to Hyde Park Care for taking excellent care of Maureen & Dale, and to his friends for supporting him after Maureen passed away. Thank you to the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital and the Palliative Care Team for the care he received.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation www.schfgo.com or Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation www.pattisonchildrens.ca in Dale’s memory.
Arrangements entrusted to Brady Levesque.
