Allen was born in Whitewood Hospital on October 16th, 1950, to Wellington Kolman and Dorothy Kolman (Turner, Westcott). He was the youngest of 4 children. At the age of 11 his father passed away. He continued to grow up on the Kolman family farm north of Whitewood and attended school in Whitewood. He completed 2 years of post-secondary education in Saskatoon SK before returning to the family farm in Whitewood. He married Karen Jordens in 1972. They had two children, Jacelyn & David Jr, who grew up on the family farm.
Allen grain farmed but his true passion was the Purebred cattle business, specifically Simmental and Black Angus. He often admitted that the grain farming was done only to supplement his love of the competition in the show ring. He was extremely successful. His involvement with cattle took him to many locations where he met many people and always spoke of them fondly until his death. Even after he left farming, he continued to assist other cattlemen with their animal grooming and faithfully attended all the larger cattle shows, especially Agribition, right up to his passing.
Allen and Karen sold the family farm in 1998 and moved the family home into the town of Whitewood. During these years Allen worked for Sharpes Soil Services in Stockholm, hauled water for the oil rigs, and then worked at SeedHawk near Langbank. His final, and most enjoyable job, was working for Neil Davis driving a gravel truck. He loved that he met and interacted with so many people. Allen only stopped working for Neil due to severe health issues that had developed.
Having been forced into retirement he joined a group of like-minded golfers who met daily at noon to golf at the Whitewood Golf Course. It was during this time that he scored a hole-in-one which was one of his proudest golfing achievements. He enjoyed celebrating the event with his golfing buddies. He also enjoyed his coffee time at the Can-Am and at L And A Family Diner (Archie’s). Allen was often the life of the party. He lived his life to the fullest.
In 2024 a decision was made to relocate to Saskatoon for better access to medical care.
Once settled in Saskatoon his love of golf continued, and he joined the Wildwood Golf Course. Through his golfing he once again met like-minded friends who not only golfed daily but also met for coffee once a week. It was a celebration when he scored his second hole-in-one. His love for watching hockey and curling continued until his passing.
Beyond all of Allen’s life-long accomplishments, his pride for his two children surpassed anything else that had taken place in his life.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Wellington and Dorothy Kolman; in-laws Wilfred and Irene Jordens; brother & sister-in-law Gerald & Carole Westcott; and Sister Mona Palmer (Westcott).
Allen is survived by his wife Karen and two children; his daughter Jacelyn (Lars) Larson and grandchildren Hannah & Erik of Saskatoon; his son David (Natasha) Kolman and grandchildren Sarah and Annabel of Regina; his sister and brother-in-law Gwen & Ray Westcott of Lanigan SK; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be planned in Whitewood for this summer (Date to be determined).
