It is with deep sadness that the family of Donald Andrew Borgerson shares the news of our beloved Don’s passing, peacefully, and surrounded by family, at St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit in Saskatoon, on August 12, 2022, from the unexpected complications of cancer. Don was born on December 14, 1959 to Malcolm and Patricia Borgerson, in Rockglen, Saskatchewan. Don began his career working on the family farm where he enjoyed a happy and adventurous childhood along with his four sisters. Later, Don was a Ground and Air Crew Firefighter in the La Ronge Fire Centre Area for many years before he took on the work of Provincial Safety Officer at the La Ronge District through the Ministry of Environment/Government of Saskatchewan. Recognized for having “an outstanding reputation for integrity and dedication to his field,” he was given the Deputy Minister’s Award of Excellence in 2017 and the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in 2019. And even in these last few days before retiring from his job, he was teaching safety to a class of firefighters setting out to save our forest and its communities. Don was a kind and gentle man, caring, thoughtful and friendly to all. Predeceased by his parents, Don is survived by his wife of 20 years Debra Lucas, his devoted children Shaylene and Steven (Teneah) Burlaka, his stepdaughter Reagan Lee, his precious grandchildren Liam, Zylarr, Rowan, Kyzer, and Edie (step-granddaughter); and by his sisters Corinne, Laura, Holly, Judy and their grieving families. We will remember our Don when we are strolling through the Rockglen hills that shaped his childhood and his character, and when we are enjoying the beautiful northern forest nature trails that he spent his life protecting. We love you, dearest Don. His Celebration of Life will be announced on a later date. As Don would say, Roger that. Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
