It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doug Taylor surrounded by his family on April 6, 2022. For 2 years Doug challenged a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer pragmatically, courageously and with good humour.
He is survived by wife, Rosalynne, children Allice (Bob), Koreann (Dean), Rob (Rayshel), grandchildren Adam, Kara and Mia, brother Bob and niece Sheri. He will also be remembered by sister-in-law Eva, brothers-in-law Harold and Don, nephew Steve (Erin) and their children Connor and Lucas. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Gertie Taylor and mother-in-law Grace Piper.
Doug grew up on the family farm at Hawarden before moving to Saskatoon for careers with Co-op Trust and Canada Mortgage and Housing where he spent 22 years. In 1998 he returned to his passion, farming, at Hawarden until his retirement from the farm in January 2020.
Our family was blessed to be given 2 years after his diagnosis, with time for happy family gatherings and a special surprise celebration of his 70th birthday in 2020, including unexpected visitors and birthday parade. The practical man that he was, Doug used the time to prepare us for when he would no longer be our support, our adviser and our problem solver. He will be remembered for his garage sale history, deal making that “had to work for both of us”, surprise gifts and events, strong opinions, willingness to lend a hand when needed, being a good neighbor and member of the Jackson snow team and for really dumb jokes. But he will be especially remembered for his generosity, including a celebration trip to Hawaii for 18 family members in 2019.
Thank you seems inadequate but the family would like to express appreciation to the Saskatoon Cancer Center staff for their support and care, especially Dr O. Ahmed, Kim, Meghan, chemo nurses, Dana and the Pain Management team and Palliative Home Care. Thank you also to so many friends, neighbors and extended family for their unfailing support and so many acts of kindness: especially Wade, Ted, Erma, Bill, Beth, Gertie, Jackie, Maxine, Wendy, Pat, Kathleen, Rosalynne’s Pool Pals, Nathan and Sobeys pharmacy staff.
At Doug’s request there was a private service of remembrance. Interment was held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Anyone wishing to honour Doug’s memory with a charitable donation can do so at https://pancreaticcancercanada.ca or a charity of your choice.
